3 weeks!

Well, 3 weeks-ish. To Wisconsin!
Depending on when the confirmed flight date is.
And 3 weeks for this to heal!

So that i 'll be able to walk on American soil.
And travel! Hee.

Packing is taking a backseat for now cause i can't do much without my mobility.
But still, i'm getting a bit excited about finally starting my uni years overseas.
So the little toes must heal! =)

Karyn is in Nilai. Until Thursday morning.

Still the same old bug infested (or rather, lizard poo) S block, but on a different floor.

Spent the first night/early morning sandwiched between several boisterous groups at the cafeteria. The World Cup Final was too big an event for Inti students to miss, despite some having finals and some having JPA briefing a few hours later. =P

So off we went as zombies at 7 am for the JPA briefing.

My tentative departure date is 23rd August. All the flight dates are tentative because the bookings are yet to be finalized plus the most of the flights to US within that month are already full. Though i think the departure date won't vary much cause orientation starts on 25th.

And then there was badminton on monday evening with some cf people. At least that's something i can play. =P Then hanging out in bee's room with the girls, pigging out on layer cake from Sarawak.

Karaoke at seremban the next day with the girls again! And burger kukus for supper.

This week will be the last time I see some of them. Awwwww. =(

But all is not lost! There's always campus visits and holidays to plan together. =D

Karyn is back home in Penang nao. =) In case anyone still doesn't know.
I've got about 3 months of holiday! Though i must say, time passes real fast here. Maybe it's cause there are things to do on most days, even on the nothing-to-do days as well. Been getting quite a bit of exercise, for which i'm glad. =D after all that inactivity in Nilai and the late night burgers during the last week. Tsk tsk.
Anyone free for a game of badminton? Hahaha. =)

Well, last week the girls came over to Penang for a 3D2N stay. Lets just say that planning and coordinating for a 12 person outing is quite challenging, plus the fact that we didn't have and were not allowed to drive on our own. But RapidPenang proved to be quite efficient! By the way, it was the first time the 3 Penangites (Beng, Wendy and myself) took a Rapid bus. =P

Then the following week, the guys came over to Penang. Haha..everyone seems to have nowhere else to go after the cancellation of our Redang trip. Pictures will be up at a later time, when i get tagged. =)

On the academic side, i'm still waiting on Wisconsin to admit me. Wish they'd hurry up!! There's so much things left to be done. Medical check up, forms to fill, visa to make, briefing to attend, accomodations to settle. And again i say, i wish they'd hurry up!! Us engineering people seem to be not getting our admission decisions yet. =/ In the mean time, i feel like getting a temp. job to earn some extra cash. But by doing that, i wont have time for badminton, hiking and such. Dilemma. =P

Yes, the pictures on blogger are functioning again. =)
Here's a recap on what happened last last week on my birthday.

That's me paper rose! =D Done by Bee. The girls (Beng Yen, Crystal, Oli, Shervin, Bee, Wendy, Quek, Yin Yiing) gave me an early birthday celebration during dinner on April Fool's Day.

I wanted to take an even closer picture but i missed the pit-walk session. Had to leave right when we were lining up to go in cause there was Good Friday service later in the evening. Though the rest of the mechanical engineering people managed to go in the pit area, walk around and take photos. One friend even got an autograph from Hamilton!

Ooh ooh, then on Sunday during Easter Celebration, i got another cake(from the leaders)! =D Green tea. With fruit slices on top. Very yummy. And a very valuable gift. And on the same day, the girl friends in Inti gave me a handmade birthday card too(which they didn't manage to finish writing on my birthday itself). =D

Guess who's going to the Sepang Circuit this Friday for the Malaysian leg of the F1 race? =P Heeee.

Goodness, i've not been following F1 for ages. I didn't even know that Alonso has switched to Ferrari and Raikkonen is no more. And Schumacher is back from retirement? All those new faces, new teams and changes. =S Super outdated wei.

Anyway, i'm gonna go watch the Practice Session as well as the Pit Walk session for free. It doesn't matter that it's only the practice session cause the most important part is the Pit Walk (and the free part)! =D

We are heading north for our last outing together (which, including this one, we have never successfully got the whole complete group to go somewhere together =/ ).
Penang is our confirmed trip destination. Yes, home. =)
There was just too much commotion with the earlier plan.

Tis still the mid semester season!

About two more weeks till we're done with the mid semester rush of mid-terms, test 2's, speech outlines, major presentations- toilet paper, composting and some chemistry related one, assignments and lab reports among other things.
Can't wait for some time to finally have a lazy weekend doing nothing but stoning and watching movies on the laptop. =)

Hmm. Come to think of it, i can't remember if we went out at all this semester! The only one i remember is meeting up with Kiran and Jemimah. Oh, and there's MidValley with Beng and Hae Ju...but that doesn't quite count cause we had missions to accomplish. So it wasn't really a we're-free-this-week-so-let's-go-to-the-mall kinda trip. =/

Can't wait to get this semester over and done with! RAA!
Have so many things on my mental list that i wanna do!
Which we shall see if they come to past..cause i do have a tendency to...not be productive when there are long holidays. =P

But then again, kinda not so eager to say goodbye so soon to the friends i've come to known in Inti. Close friends that might very well end up in all different unis scattered across the US, friends and leaders from CF and Acts that i might not have the chance to meet again, friends from classes and hostel blocks, friends of friends, friends from other colleges, friends from other countries. Even the new friends made this semester!

Been busy lately.
All the way from the one week break till the next few weeks in March.
Rally coming up-much to prepare for! Pre-rally cf meeting. New ACTS service in Nilai. Public speaking speeches-they seem to never end! Another bout of tests.

Though the barbecue with the gang yesterday was a good stress reliever. =D

Will update about the CNY break and campus camp with pictures some time later. Last CNY celebration at home. =/ But both CNY and camp were equally fun and fulfilling. =)

Finally met Ming Yen after sooooo long. I think it was almost one year ago since i last saw her...at the Salsa's reunion. So much has happened between then and now. Though, she's still the same Ming Yen i know with an infectious laughter. ;) Didn't have much time to talk but no worries, will be seeing her every weekend from now till March.

It's been day 2 of the new sem and i've already started my afternoon naps (and mind you, the real work starts tomorrow).
Looks like i'll be keeping up to my falling asleep trend. =P

Since coming back here last Sunday, i've been feeling a little less bubbly, little less sound effects-ish and a little more emo. Kinda surprising though cause no matter how much i've enjoyed the holidays, i've never actually felt so reluctant to be here.

Maybe it's because i've been having too much fun back home.
Maybe it's the fact that it's our last sem and we all would prolly go our different ways once we get our admission decisions.
Maybe it's because every new day in 2010 means that it's one step closer to leaving.
Maybe it's cause the chicken rice stall in the cafeteria is not operating. And that's the best around here.
Maybe it's being in the confines of 4 walls in a small rectangular room with no company.
Maybe it's the endless stream of insects and poop that greet me every time i come back.

Don't worry, it is passing. =)
The little things like funny blur moments, playing the Pig Game, phone calls and night walks make this place less drab and the day to day routine less of a chore.

As the workload piles on and the activities start coming in, time will pass soon enough. And the mojo will return! Hahaa. Then before we all know it, the fun and games are all over and it's time to start packing to go home.

Tis The Season

It's the month of holidays!
The kawan sekalian are either finishing their exams, having their breaks or coming back from 10000 km away. =D Well, except Denise (who is too busy with uni and boy boy and prolly doesn't read our blogs anymore =P) and the TARC gang (whose college gives holidays at all the weirdest times). And someone from over the South China Sea is coming over for a visit during Christmas. Heee. Crystal, bring your doggie! Pweeeease. Stow her away in a hand carry luggage and nobody would know. Sounds good? Yes. =D

In the month of December, there will be more outings with good company and good food, more trips to the cinema, more shopping (if mama allows more of it), more essays to reach completion, more playing masak-masak (Karyn can cook and not burn the house down. Lalalaa), and Christmas celebrations!
Before heading back to the jungle, that is.

In the mean time, other friends who are not in Malaysia for Christmas are going out /have been to explore the world. Some going to NYC, Niagara Falls, Chicago, London, Rome and Italy and some more!
Mmm can't wait for that part next year. =)
It is true when people say college days are the best days.

First Taste

First taste of home and i had four meals today. Well, sorta.
Mee goreng for tea immediately upon arriving in Penang.
Some ikan bakar for dinner. Some roasted pork from a second dinner.
And char koay teow & geng geng drink for supper!

Mmmmm.
I foresee many more meals like that in the coming days.
So much more of home to taste.

And the best part is that Penang food is so cheap! <3 <3
And you get to eat good food cause you're with family. =D

Brought Francis home with me. Don't want him to be eaten by the insects of Nilai.
He was asked for a boarding pass again. Which also happened in February when i brought him to Nilai. Teehee.

First up, pack pack packing. It's amazing how much paper, notes, books(and who knows how many innocent trees killed) you accumulate over 4 semesters. I think they'll all go into the recycle bin next year when i leave Inti.

Reflections

Well, it's been almost a month since i've updated. Much has passed since the last post. I always want to blog about events and what i've ben up to budden...*looks at blog header* =P Whoops. My bad. I really need to change the layout and the name. Budden...=P Ehehehe. Ok, i know i need to work on that. Now for some brief updates.

The usual round of tests and assignments (though having only one sub makes things less taxing =D). Choosing universities for application. Confirming the 5 uni choices (should be my final choices). Restarting the whole application process. MPO concert (this time around, it was good. Beethoven. And boy genius on the piano). Outing to 1U (cause now we got ~~drebar~~ friend with car!). A few Friday dinner nights around Nilai town. Lunch with lecturer and classmates (duck rice, nasi kandar. yumm). Swimming. Jogging. Cat that came up to first floor (was one very cute and friendly cat ^^). Prayer meetings early morning. CF activities. Having no money to buy Twisties (and a very amused shop owner). Movie night with the 4th floor gang. House Season 5 and 6. Sleep. Naps.

Though all that pale in comparison to what happened in the afternoon today.

It really came as a shock to all of us. Someone so young & with such a bright future, someone we actually know, someone who's always so blur we always wondered if he's still blur even in Cornell, someone who was terrified of abseiling during BTN but survived anyway, someone whom Yeet Chien always offered a seat to, someone who is so quiet yet so hardworking...
I'm not quite sure what to say.
Like a friend said, you feel the surge of emotions so much more when something happens to someone that you know as compared to all the world events that don't affect you. Like how can the whole world (ok, half your msn contacts) be so happy/carefree when your friend just passed away? And nobody noticed anything was amiss until like 4 days later! Yes (as you can probably tell), i am still shaken.
I guess that's how life is. Things happen and the world goes on...

It made me appreaciate all the people around me even more. I'm glad i have friends who care, friends who ask you out for dinner/lunch/activities, friends who notice when you're not in the room, friends who miss you cause you're far away (lynn <3), family to remind you of home and all things familiar...etc.
Go give everyone a hug/smile today. For being a part of your life. =)

Departure

Crystal and i went to KLIA just this evening to send Denise off
As predicted, there was lots of waiting...waiting...and waiting...

Got to see the entire process.
Lotsa family and friends mulling around, waiting for the students to get their bags checked in, taking photos, waiting for the briefing and just talking (we saw Denise's boy boy! Talked to him too. =P).

While waiting, Crystal and I checked out their luggage sizes, backpacks and etc. (yeah, we were getting statistical data in preparation for next year) The boys sure travel light. Either only small bags or one big luggage plus a backpack. What can you possibly fit into such little space?! Though most of the other students brought two bags. I'm guessing a 28" and a 26".

Then came the briefing where passports were handed out. Then one by one, they descended towards the immigration area. Though i was surprised there weren't any waterworks. No, Denise didn't tear either. Hahaa. She just went pass the immigration, got through the security check and on towards the terminals. No looking back.
So that's the start of a new part of Denise's life. =)

Next year, it'll be our turn to descend those escalators and wave goodbye.

Cubicles

And so, the semester break has ended.
Back to living in confined cubicles. =P
Quite a few have left for the States and its a lot quieter now.
Though not much has changed.
Still the same ol' ululand.

Enrolled for Linear Algebra and Public Speaking for the short semester.
Yeah, yet another maths subject.
Won't be seeing the last of them anytime soon.

September marks the departure of many friends to foreign lands.
UK, Canada, US, Czech.
Sometimes i wish people don't need to part ways.
But that's part of growing up isn't it.

New batch of JPA students came in today.
About half our number.
Less AUP students this time around.
Looks like a decent bunch. =)
A whole big group of very semangat seniors (read: us) went to watch their ice-breaking games.

Reminds me of that time exactly one year ago when we were in their shoes.
Didn't know many people, felt so sesat and apprehensive of living in ululand, and had absolutely no idea what the SAT-TOEFL-uni applications-essays-Ivy League/Ivy Standard mumbo-jumbo was all about.

Now we've grown wiser, know our way around every nook and crany (ok, maybe not all of them), become more laidback and developed closer friendships.

Ah well.
Time flies and things change.
We is getting older.
Oh noes! =P

Marks the existence of one Khoo Kok Keong for almost two decades!

30th June 09.
Marks the anniversary of...
Stepping into the unchartered, unknown, and under-developed land of Nilai.
Been in Nilai (and thus, away from home) for one year now.
So fast, so fast.

And yet when we're here, things seem so mundane.
Class, eat, sleep, study, stone, sit for exams.
Repeat cycle.

Just by doing that, it's been a whole year already!
But a moment ago, I was crying over the phone (yes, so the drama. =P) with Lynn thinking of the years apart, communication difficulties, the hugeee distance and leaving the little island. All the endless worrying about being far away from loved ones, being all alone in some foriegn country time zones away, the uncertainty of what's gonna happen next...Sure, i'm still clueless about my future (scared even) but i'm submitting it all before higher authority. =) I'll go where i'm called to go, not where my plans take me.

I can honestly say i wouldn't wanna change a thing about being here.
Well, except the insect ridden room and the food. That could use some sprucing up. Ehehe.
In the past weeks, i've come to realize that opting not to pursue the Northwestern waitlist was the right choice. Yeah sure, i could have been admitted (or not) into Northwestern if i waited. But there's so much more for me here right now that i can't get in US (no, i'm not delusional).
Serving, growing, learning and ultimately, changing to become a better me.
I'm glad there's an extra year for me to fully equip myself with a strong foundation before stepping out into foreign places.

In the past 365 days here,
Made new friends.
Learnt about learning ie. classical conditioning, Pavlov's theory...
Countless birthday surprises.
Squashed like sardins on board KTM.
Decimated insects by the dozens. XD
Got food poisoning.
Sleep over & movie night.
Academic award presentations.
Emo calculus test all-hope-is-gone moments.
Attended awesome conferences (Bloom Conference 08 & Revo Conference 09).
Going to concerts (this sunday!).
and so on and so forth...

The uluness is a setback sometimes. But i know my purpose here. I know it's not by chance or luck that i've gotten a scholarship to study in US and been placed Inti, Nilai.
I found it interesting that my batch is the one and only one with JPA students majoring in Engineering. None of our seniors were engineering majors and none of them in the new batch coming in this Wednesday are majoring in engineering.
So why did a handful of engineering students get sent to Inti, Nilai in 2008? ;)

Another 365 days around, it'll be time to prepare for the US of A.
We'll see what happens then. =)

The day called for a trip down to Midvalley!
Three Cal3 students left the uluness and ventured into the city for a Friday afternoon mini gathering.
First stop of the day.
Secret Recipe for cakes and some 'private talk'. Hahaa.
Beng Yen made me look at the food-wall, which induced hunger despite having lunch a few hours ago.
We're such a bunch of food people. =P

Remnants of what was macadamia white chocolate something something and apple crumble.

And this is Rachel's little gift for each of us. =)
3 of us bought her a farewell gift too, which i forgot to take a photo of.

Cute clips which i think can double as hair clips and nobody would be the wiser. =P

After the cake session, we headed over to Toast Box for another round of tea.

Was at a violin and piano recital today.
In our very own MPH (Multi Purpose Hall).
By Sebastian See-Schierenberg, guest pianist Alfredo Oyaguez and concert presenter Susana Galvan.
They duo played some pieces from composers like Bartok, Schubert, Debussy, Kreisler and so on.
We watched Mr. Sebastian, an ex-MPO musician perform up close. Like this close. =D
Was an entertaining evening cause the presenter spoke dashes of mandarin, joked and gave brief histories and insights about the composers in between pieces.

Overall, we INTI people were very fortunate.
One of the big wigs of INTI is friends with the husband and wife team.
So he got them to come to our campus to perform. ^^
We got to take photos with the group too.
Oh and, all Malaysians love this : free admission
Haha.

Highlight of the day is...
Cycling!
Inti is actually not bad for cycling.
The mini hills and slopes are good for leg exercise.
Going up is torturous but going down is fun.
Wind blowing in hair and all. =P
Though there are lotsa road bumps.
They make your bum hurt unless you stand up when you ride past.

I'm quite positive my legs will hurt tomorrow.
Don't quite mind actually. =D

It dawned upon me in Cal class that i don't particularly fancy being wrong.
It's like this itch behind your back that your hands just can't seem to reach.

Seeing your homework consistently having big red 'angry' crosses or distorted :( s and having to re-do the drawings are not very fun.
Not very boosting for the morale either.
A lecturer who is very particular and meticulous isn't very easy to please.
Aish.

Field Trip

Having friends who drive & own cars is the best thing any jungle folk can ask for.
So yesterday was field trip day.
Everybody say Wheeeee!

From Nilai in the morning, Sunway Pyramid + IKEA in the afternoon, Midvalley/Gardens in the evening and back to Nilai again at night.

Bought a new bottle from Sunway to replace my lost one (Got myself a Mr.Men&LittleMiss bottle. Lalalalalaa =D),

Had yummy meatballs (to the point of meatball overdose. Hahaa) in IKEA (Who can ever say no to IKEA meatballs! I loveeeee the place. They've got cool stuff with canggih names that make you feel like buying em all and DIY-ing your house.),

Plus lotsa walking at Gardens (not that i can afford anything nor would i want to buy anything there, but nobody says we cannot walk around the atas place, ya? =P Anybody wanna bring me to Tony Romas? *hintfamilyhint* heee).

Oooh, and oreo cheesecake all the way from Penang. ^^
Nobody says no to handmade, soft and light, melts-in-the-mouth cheesecake.
Except Beng Yen who was too sleepy for cake. =P

By the way, if anyone wants to go to Midvalley, it's best to go via KTM.
KTM rawks! *coughcough*
The Midvalley carpark is one hugeeee sauna.
Now if you use public transport, there's no need to sweat like a pig searching for your car in the incredibly big and maze-like basement carpark.
All hail Sunway Pyramid's car park!
They have the best system i've seen so far.

One of our floormates has those non-stick all-in-one pot thingies.
Where you can fry veggies, cook rice, boil soup and make steamboat(i want!!!)..and other stuff.
So roomie borrowed it, bought some ingredients and cooked dinner.

Now the room smells like fried rice.
Too bad it's not for me. XD

What i've been up to lately.

1. Picking songs to play for MUS 105 presentation.
Pairing up with Beng Yen to present a song/ a few songs for our music presentation.
I'll be playing and she'll do the singing.
We're still in the process of deciding what song/songs to pick.

2. Learning new pieces
Found many nice songs to try out.
Though i need to book the music room in order to play the piano.
And it costs me $$$. RM 2 per hour. =(

3. Singing in a choir
It kinda reminds me of the choral speaking days.
A couple of us joined a choir group and we're presenting two songs for the coming Malaysian Cultural Night this Tuesday. =D
Complete with embarrassing actions and all.
Teehee.

4. Joined the Skate Club
Yeaahhhh. =P
I kid you not.
I wanna roller bladeee!
The last time i got to roller blade was in primary school k.

5. In the process of deciding which uni to apply to for transfer next year.
It's still one big headache at the moment.
Different unis have different pre-requisites....

Wheeeeeee.
Decided to take only 3 subjects this semester.
Physics 2, Calculus 3 and Music. =D
Two challenging pre-majors and one relaxing elective to take the mind of formulas and what nots.

Had a first taste of all 3 subjects today.

Physics lecturer told us that there are about 250 formulas to remember for Physics 2.
Yeah, 250. And only about 30 are provided in the formula booklet.
Wheeeeeee?
Hahaha.

Calculus was about solid lines, dots and dashes coupled with imagination and visualization of 3D stuffs.
I am not a perfectionist at drawing stuff.
I don't mind my squiggly and crooked lines.
=P
But Cal 3 needs a lot of accuracy and consistency.
Eeeek!!!

I foresee Music to be a fun subject.
Get to go watch MPO concerts.
At student price.
Everybody say YAYYYYYYYYYYY!
Anybody wanna come? =)
Oo, and there's the presentation we have to do.
Need to come up with an interesting idea for a good presentation.

Past week at home was good.

Got to spend time with family!
Baby Ryan called me 'yee yee'. =DD
Hung out with mummy a lot.
Listen to dad's loud yaawwwns and the doggies' ear-piercing barks. =P

Met up with friends.
We Spicy Girls!
Laughed like no man's business,
Talked till the cows came home,
And ate till our stomachs screamed for help.

Sat in the cinema a couple of times.
Stepped into Vincci at least 3 times.
Played Daytona and beat people at it. =P
Went to Gurney more often that not.
Was at Queensbay for 2 consecutive Saturdays.

Ingat pergi Kem Meru akan jumpa pacat, tapi satu pun tak ada.
Betapa gembiranya hati saya. =D

Ingat kena meredah paya semasa aktiviti 'kembara', tapi hanyalah meredah hutan.
Pacat tak ada, tapi nyamuk banyak sangat.
Hutan pun, hutan yang pernah diterokai.
Masudnya, tiada challenge sangatlah.
Dulu kembara semasa kem kepimpinan sekolah di Tapah lagi challenging.

Ingat sesi-sesi yang diaturkan amatlah boring, tapi nampak-nampak taklah begitu boring juga.
Dapat cuba abseiling tau!!
Dari menara yang lebih kurang 40 kaki ketinggiannya.
Tu yang paling best.

Ha, inilah dipanggil abseiling.

Lagi ada larian 2km. Mengikut jalan yang bercerun curam.
Fuh, kami semua feel the love oleh asid laktik yang semakin banyak dalam otot-otot kaki.
Bahang kepanasan dan keletihan merebak ke seluruh badan semasa berlari menentang graviti.

Dapat tengok wayang lagi.
Siapa pernah tengok Hati Malaya?
Haa..
Tengoklah.
Tak pernah dengar pun, ya?

Oh ya,
Makanan boleh tahan juga.
6 jamuan setiap hari.
Sarapan, minum pagi, makan tengah hari, minum petang, makan malam, minum malam.
Setiap dua jam, kami makan.
Nasib baik kem bukan berbulan-bulan.
Kalau tak, pasti gemuk.

Lagi tiap-tiap hari bangun pada pukul 5 30 pagi, tidur pada pukul 1 30 pagi.
Dari masa bangun hinggalah masa rehat, semuanya penuh dengan sesi ceramah, latihan dalam kumpulan, riadah dan tentulah makan.
Sebab tak cukup tidur dan makanan yang amat banyak, kami terpaksa belajar menahan mengantuk pada waktu tengah hari.
Training yang amat bagus untuk lecture-lecture di Inti pada waktu selepas makan.

Fasilitator menarik juga.
Ada yang lucu dan ada yang sangat prihatin.
Bukanlah segarang yang disangkakan.
Pertama kali kami semua diberi gelaran 'cencaluk'.
Hahahaha.

Dan kami semua berebut mandi.
Kem Meru ni ada di atas bukit, tekanan airnya kurang baik.
Jadi kalau terlalu banyak orang menggunakan air, air keluar titik demi titik.
Sebab itulah, saya dan beberapa rakan-rakan yang lain membentuk gang 'Mandian Tengah Malam'.
Kami semua belajar menahan daripada menjadi OCD terhadap kebersihan diri.
Kan semua orang tahu, semasa menyertai kem, tak jadilah bersih sangat.

Ha, begitulah kehidupan saya selama 5 hari, 4 malam tanpa alat-alat elektronik dan Francis kegemaran saya (Francis tu teddy bear lah, bukan Francis Ng rakan kita).

Yesterday night was JPA phototaking for the magazine.
Surprisingly a whole big bunch of excited people turned up. =D

So today, at about 12 something AM, i got pranked.
My own roomie tricked me.
She came barraging into the room, looking so lost and so frustrated.
Said she lost her wallet.
Was even on the brink of tears.

So gullible me followed her downstairs to go search for "lost wallet".
And then suddenly there was this bunch of people standing around.
Rupa-rupanya they were waiting for me!

Today was Advance Enrollment day.
The rushing, pushing, waiting.
All over again, just like last sem.
It's a dog eat dog world out there.

Picking the subjects to take, checking to see if it clashes, coming up with a few timetables.
And in the end, on the actual enrollment day it's still gonna be reshuffled.

Engineering majors have a lot of prerequisites to complete!
ARGH!

Ooh ooh,
today was also the day my going-to-class sandals came apart.
Everything from the left sandal came apart. Literally.
I ended up using staple bullets to keep them together till help came. =P
Even walked barefooted up the stairs cause there was no way the sandals were coming up with me. Heheh.

Some incidents in the past few months of 2009..

1. Was greeted by black dried pieces of suspicious origins on the first night back in Inti. Black dried pieces of suspicious origins were stuck on various parts of bedsheet and table.

2. Picture Karyn working at her table. Then lo and behold, *insert sound of object falling from a high place*one small piece of..stuff..fell from the ceiling onto her book.

3. Something happily plonked two BIG blobs of stuff on my bed. NEAR my pillow.
Apparently my bed looks like a dumpsite.

4. Woke up one morning to see a brown, watery splatter on table.
Cleaned it.
Went for a bath.
Came back.
ANOTHER splatter!

Do lizards get diarrhea?
Cause it sure looked like a lau sai case to me.

5. Changed the mosquito netting on my side of the window cause there was a hole in it.
Few days later, the new netting had a hole too. Surprise surprise.
Hole now covered with plastic and tape.

6. I use insect repellent on my table instead of on myself. Hahahahahaha.

Funny thing is, i try to keep my area as clean as possible.
Yet stuff keeps happening to my side.
Monkey wan.

Remember the little birdies that are usually around Disted grounds?
I saw one outside my room today.
It went boing boing boing on it's little feet.
^^

Ever notice how these small brown birds usually hop from place to place?
It's as if there are tiny springs on their feet that propel them forwards.
And if you use a bit of imagination, you can hear the springs working.
Booingggg. (or maybe that's just me and my sound effects thing. =P)
Very cute birds they are. =)
Though i'm not sure what they're called.

Gearing up for tests once again.

Communal Living

And whaddya know,
today a piece of poop (and quite a big one too) in one of the toilet bowls refused to budge.
It sank to the bottom and stayed put.
Earlier, the person left water running from the tap into the bowl (prolly to get rid of the brown stuff) but she was MIA.
Back in the afternoon, poop was still intact.
Now, some small chunks have come loose (from multiple flushings) and the color of water inside the bowl has gone from clear to murky brown.
Teehee.

The small things in life. =P

On a side note,
I had another one of those near-fainting episodes again.
Same old symptoms of blurred vision, cold sweat, lightheadedness.
Was jogging with Rachel then suddenly didn't feel too good.
Dunno what's wrong. =/

I use them specially for making notes and making cards or for special occasions.
It'd be nice to own the whole set but it's so exxy (from Aimy's dictionary =P).
One pen itself costs RM 2.00.
The whole set is like RM40++ for um...maybe 24?
Sigh. How to expand my collection like that? =/

Treasure Hunt

Sleepover at Crystal's on Friday.
Had our very own GSC in her room, complete with snacks and dim light.
Heee.
Then, out to Times Square and a bit of Sungai Wang the next day. =D
Oh how i gazed at the tall infrastructures, roads packed with vehicles, multitudes of people, and shopping malls; savoring everything the city has to offer.
Macam rusa masuk kampung. Lol.
Feels so good to be in the city!
Two months in the jungle does really make one appreciate the city so much more.

Crystal, Beng Yen and me spent many hours scouring the place for long sleeved, plain white collared blouses and long sleeved, plain white collared T-shirts.
And why would the three of us hunt high and low for these items?

Because BTN camp requires it.
We're required to wear all white, long sleeved, collared, formal blouse to the classes and stuff.
The long sleeved, white collared T-shirt is for the physical activities.
Then there's the black slacks, black shoes (court shoes), track bottoms (i've never worn track pants in my 11 years of schooling. lol), shoes for physical activities and selendang; all of which i do not own.
That means i need to buy.

Do you know how hard it is to find plain, white colored, long sleeved, collared T-shirts??
It's either you have two of the criteria but never all four. -.-
When we thought we finally hit the jackpot, the shirts turned out to be only available in sizes L, XL and XL. Ngam ngam one for each of us. The shirts came at the price of RM 30 each (!!!).
Ok..RM 29.90. But still. That's three days worth of meals.
It might be cheap to some, but for students under budget, that's a lot of money ok.

So on that fateful Saturday, i only purchased one T-shirt and one necklace. Sad. =(
Ooo by the way, i love the necklace. It's a cute purple giraffe and some bead thingies. ^^
Cartoony in a way but you all know how i'm fond of cute, kiddish things. Hahaha.
Best part is, it only cost RM 9.90. Heeee.

This (INTI Academic Award Ceremony) has been more than a week ago.
But during that time, it was nerding season, so no time (read:lazee) to post. =P
Anyway, it was an awards ceremony to honor those who did well in their respective programs as well as those who were graduating.

In our (AUP) case, those who achieved a 4.0 GPA were on the President's List and those who had a 3.5 GPA and above were on the Dean's List.
Sounds canggih la, but all we got was a piece of cert.
Heeee.

Lookie! All the umm...important people with ~~funny~~ interesting regalia.
Their walk into the hall was called an academic procession. XD i think.

And of course, while waiting for our turn to get our award, we had to exercise the camera.

How i used to agonize over low marks and stuff like that..
Now, even when my cal 2 and physics test results are less than stellar, i'm not very bothered by it.
Not depressed.
Not upset.
Not...feeling.

Physics test 1- 22/40
Calculus 2 test 1- 24/50 (25% allocated to this test. You do the math. Not gonna count.)

There you go.

Sure, i wish i had gotten better scores.
But wishing won't do anything to my scores, no?
At least i got some marks. =)
Some people got negative scores for Cal 2..just because 10 marks were deducted for not writing their class sections. Yes, Negative. Less than zero.
*shudders*

Lately, i've been thinking..
I'm not sure if all this nerding is worth anything at all later in life.
I've been nerding for more than a week.
Now that my cal 2 and physics has great room for improvement, does this mean i need to become more of a recluse, study 24/7 and say NO to all fun activities?

Look who's in the news!

FOUR science stream students from Kolej Disted-Stamford have obtained five straight As in the international Cambridge A-Level examination which they sat in Nov.

The top achievers are Ng Yon Hon, Khor Suy Siong, Kiranjeet Kaur Harjit Singh and Yong Yun Xiu.

Ng, who also emerged the world top achiever for Advanced Subsidiary Mathematics, said he was overjoyed at his academic success.

“I did maths exercises regularly and practised answering the past years’ papers,” said Ng, who plans to study engineering in Singapore.

He also said he owed his success to his brother who was also a former A-Level student of the college.

“I received coaching in maths from my brother from time to time. He also motivated me to do well in my studies. I also feel great to have completed the A-Level programme in just one year,” he added.

Kiranjeet, who will be taking up medical studies, believes it pays to study hard.

“I also received constant encouragement from my parents,” said Kiranjeet whose father is a lawyer and mother a teacher.

Two A-Level arts students Chong Yee Lean and Wong Te Jie obtained 3As and 2As respectively.

They were among the 23 DISTED students who scored excellent results of 2As or more in the exa-mination.

So my weekend dates with Mr. Calculus wasn't proportional to my application of knowledge in the Calculus test...

Question after question, i solved in the past Saturday, Sunday, Monday and this afternoon.This one time i really put a lot of effort in maths and yet..test 1 might possibly be going down the drain.
Come what may, i'm gonna try to not let it affect me so much cause there are more important priorities in life other than calculus. Or physics. Or econs and chemistry.

Right, enough of gloom and doom.

On to another interesting (or not) aspect of my day-to-day life when i'm not writing funny symbols and computing alphabets.

As i was saying..

Yesterday, my towel went from purple to blahh.
Yes, blahh is a color. =P
You see, I put all my laundry into the washing machine..and when i took them out again my towel became blahh. Just like magic. -.-
Apparently the color on one apparel of mine decided to run.
And i can't figure out which one was the culprit cause the blahh-ness has this yellow-brown tinge, which doesn't seem to belong to any of my clothes.
I was pretty certain that the colors of all those i put into the washing machine wouldn't run. Apparently i was mistaken.
A pair of socks, towel and my lovable Happy Tree Friends shirt are now all blahh. =(

Hmm..
My house-wifely skills really that bad ah?? XD

Tis the season..to be not so jolly.
It's the time of the year where Australian Unis open their doors to welcome fresh intakes.
Bah. Friends are leaving or have already left for Aussie land.
Even the JPA seniors left already..on Valentines Day in fact.

At exactly 4.04 pm today, i received a call from Adelene.
She's leaving for Melbourne tomorrow.
=( and i won't be there to send her off. =(

The Adelene whom i've met in JXC piano classes back when we were 5 or 6 years old and used to write letters to back then.
The Adelene whom we met again for awhile in Form 2.
And the same sweet Adelene that i met again in Disted during those 6 months of A levels.

The Adelene whom i had lunch with ever so often in the sad Disted cafeteria when others had classes.

The Adelene whose house i visited many a time (and even locked ourselves out of..I'm so sorry, auntie!!).

The Adelene who took me and Lynn swimming at PSC.
The Adelene who would subconsciously write sentences and doodle while she studies.

And all those talks about clothes, shopping, food, studies..and how we have no clue what CSP was going on about in Mechanics and Mathematics. Lol.

And the nonsense we do with Kiran and Sneha in classes.

Back to school.
Back to tests, assignments and lab reports amid early morning shrieks of 'Faraaaaaahhh, Farraaahhhhh!'. Hahaa.
The same ol' routine doesn't inspire me to write much.

It's 3 months before i see Penang again.
Don't think i'm going back anytime before that.
It's time to put my survival skills to test.
Plus, there's the BTN camp thing going round the rumour mill.
BTN=Biro TataNegara. Something like NS in 4 days.
During the first week of sem break.
That should be quite interesting.
Lol.

Econs is as interesting as ever.
Mr. Physics Lecturer has thought us to feel the amazing-ness of Physics.
I learnt in Chemistry that one reactant is 'reduct-ed' and the other is oxidized in a redox reaction.
And Calculus classes makes me hungry. =P

Everyone, meet Doggie aka Diggoe.
My furry friend since i was a young toddler.
Yes, i hug him to sleep.
And yes, it's a he.
Don't ask me why but it's just a he. =P
I brought him to Inti the very first time i came here and he goes back home with me when there's a semester break.
Some might argue that he doesn't look like a dog..or he's a cross between a bear and a dog but i say Diggoe's a dog and that's final. =D

See, he has a dog-like tail!

Now this is Francis.

Francis Oblongata Chong the Third to be exact.
I know, he has a very cute name. =D
He's real soft too. =DD

And there's more!
That's Frost-alicious doing a head stand.
I love squeezing his butt and wings. They have beans in them! ^^

Fredalina, my flippy-floppy bunny. =D
She has beans too! At the tips of her hands and feet.
Fredalina's really nice to hold in your hand and shake it around cause...she can flip and flop. Hahaha.

It hasn't even been a week since all 3 came to my care. I only met them last Wednesday night.
But currently, only Francis is with me in Inti. The other two are back home, guarding my bed. Hahaha.

How Francis got to Inti, you ask?
Well.
He boarded Air Asia with me.
Not in the suitcase like Diggoe used to do, but on my lap.
Then, i took him on a bus from the LCCT to Inti.
Carried him from the bus stop all the way into S block.
And now he sits on my bed.

Excuse me while i put many photos of my fuzzy friends. =P

Saturday morning and afternoon was spent on the island of Jerejak. =)

While waiting for the ferry...
Early morning hunger pangs had to be squelched.

And this is how you eat from a maggi cup.

And of course, cameras were handy tools while we waited.

First event of the day. =D

The guys reached the top in a flash. Almost as if they've had had some sort of training before hand. Hmph. Guys. =P
Whereas us girls slowly picked our way up the colored footholds and handholds with help from the guide.

A lot of us reached the top in an euphoric state. Yes yes, there was a definite burn in the upper arms. Dunno about the guys, but i think us girls felt our limbs turning into jell-o towards the top.

Then came the descent.

Felt like a mini version of the Genting Solero Shot.

If you would like a serious butt-numbing, lactic acid-inducing workout session under the scorching sun, then i suggest you go for the bicycle ride. You will definitely feel the loveeeee. Trust me. =D
The track was looongggggg and bumpy. No proper roads, just sand, gravel, rocks and...other unidentifiable stuff.

At the end of the bicycle trail was this dilapidated, unused jetty.

We cycled almost halfway around the island to see this two things. -.-

After that loooong ride to and back from the old jetty came something less exhausting.

But before we got to the firefox starting point, we first had to cross...

I think the games section of Jerejak is seriously understaffed. There were only 3 guys manning the entire area. They don't have a fixed station but instead, they only go to the stations when people are there to play.
Imagine, one of them could possibly have a day like this :
Archery-->Firefox-->Rock Climbing-->Firefox-->Archery-->Firefox-->Rock Climbing--> and so forth

Anyway, after all that sweating, these two were still game for some very animated rounds of ping and pong before heading home. The rackets and ball were provided, which i thought was very nice. =) also which i was amazed at cause people didn't 'accidentally' take the equipments back with them...fully knowing how our people can sometimes be...not so courteous.

Once back home, it was time to recharge the batteries.

And that's it. Summary of half a day at Jerejak. =)

The one week break for CNY has come and gone. Haven't been updating cause forgetful me didn't bring the LAN cable home.
No cable + pc used by mummy ---> lack of updates.

Now that i'm back in Inti, i shall do a brief update on my CNY. =)

AHHHHHHH. I believe it's always good to be home.
No matter how near or far away you have been. (Nilai is far ok. And US is very x 1000000 far)
Home is where the heart is. =)

Plus, now i can say "uncle, ho wa chi ua keh pui cham sio bak".
No more "uncle, kei wo chi fan, chan sau rou".
It takes a little bit more processing to speak in Mandarin. Haha.
Cause i'm not very good at it.

Call me crazy but everytime the plane touches down at the Penang Airport, i feel like singing. =DD Yes, i am THAT happy. Hahaha. Though i have never actually sang out loud..=P Maybe the next time i'm home.

The bak kua at home is teh AWESOMMEEEE. Chewy and tender. Not too tough or dry. Sticky black sauce (which you can lick off your finger later). Big piece of meat.
Put it all together and BAM! *smacks lips*

I realize that every time i sweep/mop the floor at home, i get paid.
My wage today was 30 cents.

The nooks and crannies of my house are where my wages come from.
I suppose i must be more hardworking at cleaning out the corners and under the furniture. Then perhaps i can earn more? Hahhaha.

Today, i came home to see 3 packets from various senders addressed to me.
1. Disted College
Will someone please tell me why did Disted send me a big stack of MPW course structures????
O.o Maybe they thought i needed paper to fold paper planes with. Or paper cranes. Or CNY deco...

2. JPA
One part of the perjanjian was sent back to me for keeping.

3. CMU
Very relieved to see something from one of the US unis. Was pretty terrified that i wasted my parents' RM 250 to send the application materials which might have or might not have reached US. I tell you, the Pos Laju tracking thing is ...blahh. They NEVER update the status of your sent documents so you have no clue where it is. -.- and i'm not sure to what degree you should trust when they say "your documents will reach US in about 3-5 working days".

Back to CMU. They sent a letter confirming receipt of documents, feedback form, an Undergrad Catalog CD and some other sheets of paper.

All in all, we shall see what happens in March. When the application results are out. Lalalaaa.

I shall now go and decide what to wear on the first day of CNY.
