Sore limbs

I played volleyball and badminton the other day.
Was fun. =D =D
This coming from someone who seldom touches anything remotely connected to sports.

Ok fine. I didn't exactly play volleyball. It was more of a beginner's lesson for a few of us novices (oooh, SAT vocab). I managed to hit the ball ok. Not as bad as you perceive me to be. =P
Though badminton is a much easier game to play. Don't require any skills. Heh.

Will play again if time permits..and if there were no more TESTS.

On a side note, i miss chemistry.
I can feel the chemistry parts of my brain slowly begin to ebb away. =P

MY HOPES OF GETTING AN A+ OR EVEN A HAS DIMMED TREMENDOUSLY

AHROI;J4LWGNH H

Sigh.
Me and my carelessness.
I've failed Prof Lim.
Utter disappointment.
The instructions clearly stated "for each of the sentences, give THREE supporting statements..." and what did i do? Pick only one out of the 3 given sentences instead of doing ALL three.
His voice now rings incessantly in my ears "if you're still doing things like that for the next few test, you can say bye bye to your A".

I will not and must not get anything lower than an A for English.
It's ENGLISH!!!
It'll be such an embarrassment if i fail to even get an A.
Sigh.
Lesson learnt. I hope.

More work to add to the pile since i last updated. All these to be done within the 3 weeks before the one-week break.

-CSC test on Monday (which thankfully will not be graded, thus will not be affecting final score)
-Calculus test in 3 weeks time (and it's pretty tricky)
-Calculus assignment
-Psycho questionnaire to complete
-SAT (Verbal) class - essay intro & examples to support thesis statement

Am really looking forward to going home with no worries and tests to bog me down. =)

Practice

Despite assignments surely but slowly piling up, I shall not be querulous and try to be as assiduous as possible. I must be indefatigable! I must not be frivolous! Two researches to be carried out and reported on; one for ENL and the other for Psycho, to be more adept at vocabulary and essay writing for upcoming mock SAT test, various class tutorials to complete, Psycho short quiz to prepare for(!!!).

Being a JPA scholar makes it that much tougher. Everyone is just as good, if not better than I am. Being in constant close proximity to fellow JPA scholars makes me feel diffidently about my abilites. Oftentimes, i ponder the very reason for my being here. I am not so much sagacious in my ways. Neither am i much of a math whiz nor a profound philosopher. I prefer to think of this scholarship as a blessing.

Am trying to live up to the standards of THE venerable ENL professor.
Indeed, it is a colossal task. One that requires mental agility, English competency and an acute sense of observation. So far, he has not derided my performance in class. Instead, he has been dishing out strings of 'excellent's. I said SO FAR. Sometimes, i walk into his classes with apprehension; pondering if my latest assignment would be methodically torn asunder. Other times, i face each lesson with a sanguine dispossition.

This cloying use of SAT vocabulary is a tad bit very annoying.

There you go, Jas. A short story in which i used some of the words i learnt. =P
Pardon the verbosity.

Minuscule

I am officially denouncing all ties with Giant hypermarket in Nilai.

Never am i going back there again, unless totally necessary.

A view of Inti bus stop. Took this cause i was bored of waiting for a bus to come that has a signboard stuck on the windowpanes that says 'Giant' instead of 'KTM Nilai', 'KLIA', 'LCCT', 'Taman Cempaka' or 'Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi'.

Beng Yen said "you're gonna blog about this right?" or something along those lines. Haha.

Part of the academic block.

The bridge that students use daily to cross over from hostels to classrooms.

Anyway, there are no Inti buses doing their rounds on weekends so there was no free ride to Giant. Beng Yen and I had to pay for the trip, which did not even stop directly at the Giant bus stop. Instead, it unceremoniously dumped us at the round about we walked around like lost sheep, not knowing which direction to take. After walking for quite some time, we spotted this sign.

I remember reading about a Secret Recipe in Giant, but batang hidung pun tak nampak. Only saw a KFC restaurant. And, their pricing system is not updated frequently. I paid extra for something i bought, which i fortunately got a refund for. Poor Beng Yen got cheated in purchasing a bloster for more than what was stated on the price card.

After that little adventure inside Giant, we tried to wait for a bus a nearby bus stop. After about half an hour, Beng Yen and I were excited to see a bus coming. Alas, our hopes were crushed as it was a Nilai College bus. Having given up on waiting, we trudged ALL the way back to the roundabout spot that we were left at earlier on. Finally, we hopped on a bus which took us home. I conjecture (oooh, big SAT vocab. lol) that buses don't ply the 'Giant' route.

Bought this at the Seven Eleven store outside Inti campus. Been wanting to try it since i saw the hilarious advert on Youtube. It's a can drink where the consumer has absolutely no idea what flavour he has picked. There's 'Whatever', the non-carbonated ones and 'Anything' which is the carbonated type. In my case, it was peach tea..or so JyoLyn says. XD it tasted somewhat like the Justea greentea ones. Here, click to find out more about this Singapore made product.

End of a report on what Inti students do during their weekends.

Night Life

When the Friday evening wears on and the hostel atmosphere winds down, there's nothing much to do except going to the Nilai pasar malam. Who knew the pasar malam could be so fun. lots to see and lots to buy. =D

Right after 3 hours of ENL with Prof. Lim, a few of us decided to hop on the public bus to the pasar malam. Oddly, the bus driver charged me only 20 cents for a RM 1 trip. He must've been stunned by my prettyness. HAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Right.
The pasar malam is actually a long stretch of make-shift shops, tents and stalls on a small street. There were stalls selling a variety of food, home appliances, vegetables and the other uncooked stuff. There was even one dude who offered calligrapy name art. In Jawi that is. =P
Remind me to bring my camera along the next time i go.

This was our loot of the night. There's banana cake, murtabak, satay, lemang, chicken rice, kebab, durian and grapes. Yes, we bought durian. XD D24 wan ok! Heh.
Michelle and I shared in purchasing some of these. Hahahaha. Everything was quite nice, except the kebab.

Wendy and Crystal with their loot.

Ah Liang with his loot.

This is part of our dining hallocated directly below the Sports Hall and Accomodations Office. The large window panes with packets of junk food behind them is the Inti Mart, which sells practically everything. Next to it is one of the photocopying shops available in Inti. =)

Clockwise from left : Liang, Jit Chun, Michelle, Karyn and Crystal
By the way, Crystal is Denise's friend whom she met during her ASEAN days in Singapore, who is now my friend too! =)

EARRINGS!!! =D another pair to add to my collection.
Michelle bought for me wan ok. =D =D =D
She says it's for my birthday. Hahaha..my roomie is such a cute girl.

Lalalaa. I <3 earrings.

Weird, random stuff.

*RULE 1:
Each player of this game starts off with 15 weird things / habits / little known facts about yourself. People who get tagged need to write a blog of their own 15 weird habits /things / little known facts as well as state this rule clearly. At the end, you need to choose 10 people to be tagged and list their names.
No TAG backs!

1. I miss Penang bak kut teh. (Sorry lo, that was the first thought that came to mind. Eheh.) Seriously, the ones here that i tried so far were terribly watered down or did not taste like bak kut teh at all. And not to mention a waste of good money.

2. I got 1000 bombastic words to learn in preparation for SAT.

3. There's one dude here who reminds me of 'Uncle' from a certain college back in Penang. HAHAHAHAHA.

4. Uh..I've not had curry mee in ages. Don't plan to either.

5. I nearly fell asleep in Psychology class yesterday.

6. I predict that Calculus will be really fun in the coming months. Yay maths!

7. My friends noticed that i own pretty earrings. =D =D

8. I miss matching my outfits with my shoes. Hahaa. Here, it's mostly sneakers everyday. Boring stuff.

9. I want a Forever Friends bear. Super super super uber ultra extremely soft and extremely pricey too. Simply step into a Borders bookstore/Hallmark gift shop to see the mentioned bear. Go hug it and see how nice it feels. *grins*

10. I'm coming back in August! WHEEEEE. Penang food.

11. There are many pretty JPA scholars here. Brains & beauty. Heh.

12. Celery is not my thing. Neither is that..weird smelling veggie that's ofteen used to garnish food. No, not spring onions. I don't know what they're called..I just name them smelly veggie in hokkien.

13. One thing i miss about being home in Penang is that mummy is the paymaster. =P Now i pay for everything and stuff ain't cheap. One Psycho book took away a piece of the blue-green notes in my possesion. How sad.

14. I shall not be a worry-wart.

15. I'm going for dinner now. SEEYA!

I hereby tag....
ANYONE!

My humble abode

I shall now give your a grand tour of my hostel, albeit being a bit late.

Behold...

...the S Block!

No, being residents of Shakespeare block do not make us Old English speaking, poetry spouting maestros. Haha. By the way, all of the hostel blocks in Inti-UC are named after famous people like Aristotle, Beethoven, Confucius, Gandhi etc. There's even a RahmanPutra block which i assume is to commemorate our late premier, Tunku Abdul Rahman.

Each block consists of 5 levels, including the ground floor. There is no elevator, so people living on the ground floor or first floor (me!) tend to have things easier. Our block is an all girls block...or so it seems. There used to be guys on the ground floor but i think they moved somewhere else.

The daily journey to class starts with this road. And the walk is indeed a long one..about 10 to 15 minutes. Though Inti provides students with these nice shaded walkways (the blue zinc shades) for the entire route from the hostel blocks to the academic blocks. Unlike a certain college back in Penang. *coughDistedcough*

And this is the very special seat of the hostel guard =D =D ...in which she is MIA. Sometimes I can't help but wonder at the boring-ness of the job. Especially those with night shifts.

The first floor of our hostel block looks like that, with 9 rooms on either side. My room is the first one you see when you walk up the stairs and coincidentally also the one nearest to the toilet. No, the toilet does not stink. Heh. =P (I must say that the toilets in the academic blocks smell like a stink bomb has been left inside all the time. Hahaha.)

And these are pictures of the common toilet next to my room. There's another common toilet on the opposite end of the first floor. One thing about them toilets is that they're playing grounds for insects, bugs and critters of sorts. While you bathe, there's always more than a pair of eyes watching you. Haha. Though i think now we're used to having their 'company', we often perceive them as part of the surroundings. =D

The pantry area where we get our water source. I'm not too sure if there are any side effects to drinking water from the water cooler for long durations of time.

Everyone, this is my room. =) Do note that we hand wash our clothes most of the time cause washing machine charges RM 2.50 per usage. Sad thing is that there's not enough ventilation and sunlight coming into our blocks so the clothes take quite some time to dry..Not to mention it has been raining here the past few days. Oh yes, notice the square box on the top left corner of the picture? It's there cause we have...

...That. Free air conditioners for every room in this block. Just for JPA students. I feel so SPECIAL. hAHA.

Guess which side is mine? =P
See the notice boards on either sides of the wall? Each room has those for us to pin up whatever notices, schedules and stuff. I couldn't find the internet port the first day i came. Searched high and low but to no avail until someone told me that it was situated at the bottomest rack (the area where you can see the wires snaking around). If people's LAN cable not long enough then how? Who designed the room anyway. DUmb dumb idea. =p

There, closer inspection of the shelf. This is our food section. BOth my roomie and I are foodies. =D And she can eat a lot without gaining weight. No fair!

Mine.

Michelle's.
Yes, she's taller. Much taller then i am. Hence the higher shelf.
I have no picture to show of her cause she didn't want me to take her photo. =P

END OF TOUR.

So, what'd you think of my hostel? Nice, yes? =)
Well, I think it's nice. Nothing comes freely so i guess life in the remote town of Nilai is our price to pay for comfortable accommodations.

A Day In

Karyn fell sick on Thursday. What started off as a throat irritation developed into a cough, which then manifested itself into a fever and progressed further into a case of 'runny nose'. Nevertheless, the fever has subsided now and I recently purchased cough syrup to keep the cough and flu in check.

I hate being sick.

Oh, did i tell you, my ENL 101 professor happens to be the Associate Vice President of Inti-UC. Yes, he is a man of much calibre and being at the position that he is, his lessons can sometimes be formidable. He has many idiosyncrasies, one of which is writing dates in this form : July 12, 2008. He also wants us to study 25 hours a day. Heh. My MAT 132 lecturer, Mr Nathan is the king of lame joke which sometimes even we can't comprehend. Mr Shankar, on the other hand, loves bombarding us with his Psychology questions. One thing i must mention is that most of my lecturers here in Inti-UC allow students to eat and drink in class, unlike a certain Mechanics teacher back in Disted.

Sigh, my standard of English is still rather unimpressive. Need to improve my vocab else i'd not be able to surpass the cut-off point for my mock SAT test, let alone the real SAT in October.

Anyway, here's a glimpse of a day in the life of an JPA Inti-UC student :

Monday : CSC 101 (10.00-12.00)
TOEFL (12.00-2.00)
CSC 101 (4.00-6.00)

Tuesday : SAT (M) (9.00-12.00)
PSY 105 (2.00-4.00)
ENL 101 (5.00-7.00)

Wednesday : SAT (V) (10.00-12.00)
MAT 132 (2.00-4.00)

Thursday : MAT 132 (10.00-11.00)

Friday : MAT 132 (8.00-12.00)
PSY 105 (10.00-12.00)
CSC 101 (2.00-4.00)
ENL 101 (5.00-7.00)

Conclusion : I love Thursdays. =D

It's all about connection

Greetings people. This be my first time blogging from the comforts of my room. Yes, i do believe i'm allowed to use the word comfort. If i'm not mistaken, Inti-UC has the best accommodation & facilities compared to the other colleges which JPA students get sent to. The KTTians are like living in a kampung...or so they say. =P though what i meant to say was that my room has internet connection now!!!! The speed's pretty fast for now..until the rest of the block finds out, that is.

Before i forget, I must mention KIRANJEET KAUR's name. In the previous post i mentioned that nobody calls me but i forgot that KIRANJEET did. So there you go. Your name. In BIG BOLD letters. Happy?? Hahaha.

I had my maiden trip via KTM today. All the way to Mid Valley, which roughly took about an hour and RM 4.70 from my wallet. Tried searching for SAT Subject Test books in MPH as well as Borders but to no avail. Both bookstores have very little variety. Then came the time to go home. My advice is to either go home before or after the peak hours - 5pm to 7pm. We got to the station at about 6.15pm and had 2 failed attempts in getting into the tube of sardines. At the 3rd attempt, we managed to get in albeit being very very squashed. Oh and there was also the occasional fellow commuter with bad breath. Imagine being in close proximity to hands, butts, legs and what nots coupled with certain tantalizing aromas. Heh. Thankfully there were no snatch theft incidents. =)

That was some experience.

Long day tomorrow. Will blog another time. Ta.

Away from home

It's the second week in Nilai now. Had my first class of the semester yesterday, CSC101 or in other words, Introduction to Computers and Information Processing..or something along those lines. Yeah, it might sound fancy pancy but actually it's just learning how to use Microsoft Office and that kinda basic stuff. Heh. We had to type a word document in the Mircrosoft Word 2007 (which we conveniently multi-tasked by going online) I can imagine CSC practical classes to be a lot of fun in the near future. Hahahaha.

I'm taking 7 classes in total.
The Computers thingy
Psychology
English
Calculus with Analaytical Geometry
TOEFL
SAT (M)
SAT (V)

Sadly, i'm not allowed to take econs for this sem cause Inti chooses our subjects for us JPA students according to our majors. Though i might be able to try econs in the next sem. I might also be exempted from LAN subjects so i'll have more free time in the next sem. =)

Oh oh, i just had SAT (M) class a while ago. For our very first lesson, we learnt addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. HAHAHAHAHAHA.
Here's an example of our exercise :-

What is the product of 0.567 and 4.231?

Serious. I'm not joking.
It's more of a pressing calculator accuracy class. HAHA. Pardon my use of the term 'pressing calculator'. It sounds so wrong..and so Malaysian. Not that i'm against our Malaysian English, just that now I'm supposed to start using American English. XD
Sidewalk instead of pavement
Pants instead of trousers
Flat instead of puncture
'o' instead of 'ou' as in color and not colour
Anyway, the internet connection is still not functioning in our hostel blocks. There's still not much opportunity to go online..except when there's free time between classes. Though seeing as how the studying sickness has already infected so many students, i'll be joining their ranks in no time at all. I'm planning to take TOEFL in August, when i come back to Penang for a break. And i also have a mock SAT test before our one week break in August. Which is another reason for me to start revising real soon. On top of all that, i need to also do research on unis and the details required for application. I'm not too keen on applying to Ivies actually, but it's just for the sake of trying. I'd rather do 2 years in Inti and transferring to a better uni which suits my major.

By the way, the people here are really fond of using acronyms.

UPO
GO
AO
SAO
OAR
FOLA
FAS
........and so on.
You want to know what it means, ask me. =P

ps- why has nobody called me yet huh(with the exception of family)? Don't miss my voice ah? Hmph. I'm hurt.
=P

pps- Acts Acts Acts!!!!!!! *grins*

Alive

HELLOOOOOOO people back in Penang!!!!!!!!!!
I am alive and well in Nilai. No worries.

Currently in the computer lab..don't know how many they have in total but there's a LOT. (many JPA students don't know about the free excess to internet here, cause our room internet portal can't be used yet. Heheh.)
I kinda have a lot of things to say but there's not much time cause we're still having our orientation stuff later.

So. I've met people from all around Malaysia within these two days that i've been in Inti. Johor, Selangor, KL, JB, Sarawak, Sabah...yadda yadda. My roomie's from Sarawak by the way. =) Though it is kinda intimidating at times...there're like 230+ JPA students here under AUP programme and another 50+ under SAM. And mind you, all these people are the cream of the cream. Pressure ok.

On a side note, i have a one week break in August and a long one month semester break in November.
Wohooooo! =D Oh yes, i'd like to show you a picture of my room if i could, but unfortunately for now i can't. So you all wait la. About my accomodation, it's pretty nice that Inti treats JPA students quite nicely. They installed air conditioning in our Shakespeare block. =D though this block is like the last and also the furthest away from everything. One more thing about my room. The matress is springy. Heh. Can feel the springs underneath and all but hey, i'm not complaining about free education and free accomodation. =)

The food here is alright. Not too expensive and they have a large variety. Some very nice facilities they have in Inti too. Olympic size swimming pool, tons of pool tables, cyber cafes, bakeries, computer shop, book store, Inti Mart...Inti UC is BIG.

Currently still adjusting to the life here. And of course i miss you people back home. *hugs* Think of me ya? XD

Oh and Jas, i'm happy for you. Yay!! =)
